74,233 People In Tipperary Set To Receive Christmas Bonus Social Welfare Payments and Doubled Child Benefit Payments This Week

Department of Social Protection

Details for the lump sum ‘Christmas Bonus’ social welfare payments being paid this week have been announced by Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys.

Pensioners, disabled people, carers and lone parents are set to receive a 100% increase in their payments this week. Over 1.38 million people across the country, including 51,600 people in Tipperary, are going to receive a Christmas Bonus payment this week. Recipients of the Illness Benefit who have been receiving the benefit for longer than 12 months will get this bonus payment.

Along with the Christmas Bonus payments, the Child Benefit payment has been doubled from the usual payment of €140 per child to €280 for the month of November and for December. Families with children aged 16 and under receive the Child Benefit payment along with those who have a disabled child or child in full time education until they reach 19 years of age. In Tipperary 22,633 families will receive the increased Child Benefit payment for 43,677 children.

Speaking about the payment changes for the festive period, Minister Humphreys said:

“This week, we are rolling out more lump sum payments that I secured as part of Budget 2025.

“Throughout the week some 1.4 million people will receive the Christmas Bonus payment. This will support people up and down the country including pensioners, carers, people with disabilities and working families.

“In addition to the Christmas Bonus, on Tuesday we will have the second of our double Child Benefit payments that will support over 1.27 million children across the State. This means that families will receive payments of €280 per child tomorrow.

“These payments mean people will have extra money in their pockets in the run up to Christmas, which will ease the pressure that many households are facing.”
