IFA National Livestock Chair Declan Hanrahan said the in-person training for farmers in SCEP announced by the Minister for Agriculture must be accessible to all farmers.

Mr. Hanrahan said suckler farmers in the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme must have the training requirement of the scheme completed by November 15th, 2024, in order to stay in the scheme.

Declan Hanrahan outlined issues with the online roll out of training which has not been accessible for many farmers. Acknowledging the Ministers announcement of in person training the National Livestock Chair called on Minister McConalogue to publish dates and venues for in person training allowing farmers adequate time to prepare for these events and attend to remain in the scheme.

Mr. Hanrahan said venues for these events must consider areas with the greatest needs and all farmers must be provided with several venue options close to their area. He added that it would be unacceptable for farmers to be expected to travel long distances to attend training.

Concluding, Declan Hanrahan highlighted the importance of SCEP payments for suckler farmers and the need for unnecessary obstacles to be eliminated so that all farmers can meet the requirements for the scheme.
