A statement from the Irish Grain Growers Association (IGG) and the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) has again called the Minister for Agriculture to reverse his decision to suspend the Straw Incorporation Measure (SIM). Along with the calls to reverse the decision from the IFA and the IGG, two Junior Ministers in the Department of Agriculture have disassociated themselves from the Ministers solo run.

The Minister has offered to meet with the Irish Grain Growers next Tuesday which in their view is too late. They made it clear to the Minister that the farmers will be harvesting this week in a complete vacuum. They also emphasised the immense stress that all grain growers will be experiencing because of this decision. The Irish Grain Growers Association finished its statement saying that if the Minister’s unilateral run continues the Taoiseach must intervene without delay.
