8 Tipperary Primary Schools Announced as Part of 168 Further Schools Joining Hot Meals Programme

Department of Social ProtectionThe Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, has announced an additional 168 primary schools countrywide that have been approved for the Hot School Meals Programme. This announcement means that a further 29,000 primary school children will receive a hot, nutritious meal each day during the school year bringing the number of children eligible for a hot school meal to 345,000 countrywide.  

Out of the 168 additional schools announced as part of the programme, eight schools in Tipperary are set to take part in the programme when it returns in September. The following schools in Tipperary have been added to the programme in this announcement – St Mary’s Parochial School, Killusty NS, SN Rath Eilte, SN Sa Hinse, Carrig NS, SN Cill Chuimin, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál and Rear NS.  

Announcing the additional primary schools eligible for this programme, Minister Humphreys said: “Since my appointment as Minister for Social Protection, I have grown the Hot School Meals Programme from a small pilot of just 30 schools to a nationwide programme which now provides nutritious hot meals in 2,200 primary schools across the country. 

“My ambition now is to finish the job as part of this year’s Budget and ensure that every primary school in Ireland is providing hot school meals in 2025. 

“I firmly believe the roll-out of hot school meals to every primary school in the country will be one of the lasting legacies of this Government.”
