Upperchurch Tipperary in new online film ‘Tracing My Irish Ancestry’
Tourism Ireland has launched a new online film, ‘Tracing my Irish Ancestry – my journey home to Ireland’, specially created to encourage people around the world to visit Ireland in 2016 and find out more about their Irish ancestry.
Tourism Ireland’s short film was produced to connect with those with Irish heritage around the world. It shows Irish-American Gerry Britt’s search to uncover his ancestry and how he traced his Irish roots to near Upperchurch in Co Tipperary. See the film below or at this link. Gerry also wrote a book ‘Goodwill on Credit‘ about his experiences travelling around Ireland along with a play ‘When are you going back?‘ which was performed in Upperchurch by the Upland Players.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “With an estimated 70 million people across the world claiming links or affiliations with the island of Ireland, Tourism Ireland is actively reaching out to the Diaspora. We are inviting them to visit Ireland, to learn more about their heritage and explore the places their ancestors came from.”
The ‘Tracing my Irish Ancestry – my journey home to Ireland’ film will also be promoted via Tourism Ireland’s other social media platforms – with its Facebook fans (3.4 million fans worldwide) and Twitter followers (324,000+), and on its YouTube channel.
