Irish Seed Savers Association Autumn Workshops
Irish Seed Savers Association is based in Scariff, Co Clare. Our Autumn workshops are filling up fast and if you are interested in taking a closer look at the fascinating and colourful world of forest fungi, come to our Wild Mushroom Foraging workshop on Sunday 23rd October, you will learn how to find, identify and safely collect nutritious gourmet forest mushrooms.
On Thursday 20th October, we are running our Trees for Food workshop. This course looks at different systems for combining traditional farming or gardening with tree crops. Participants will learn about wild harvests from native and non native trees and shrubs and the preserves that can be made from them.
Staying with trees, our very popular Orchard Establishment course runs on Sunday October 30th. This course covers everything you need to know from choice of site, layout of your orchard, choosing rootstocks to health and disease of trees and basic pruning techniques.
Prepare your Polytunnel for Winter on Saturday November 12th, this workshop will also look at crops for very early spring and cover some soil care and sowing.
Our Spooky Halloween Fun day for children is on Monday October 31st. There will be arts and crafts, mask making, apple tasting and juicing, scary ghost stories and Halloween games as well as pizza making in our cob oven. This is a great day out for children and the emphasis will be on creativity, ecology, food and fun, €25 per child.
The ever popular Vivienne Campbell returns on November 6th with an Introduction to Herbal Medicine Theory. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to be able to treat common ailments with safe herbal remedies. Vivienne is also giving a Natural Cosmetic Making course on November 20th, come along and pamper yourself and learn how to make gorgeous, natural gifts for your loved ones, just in time for Christmas.
All workshops run from 9.30am to 4pm and cost €60 or €54 for supporters, there is a small charge for materials for some of the workshops.
