Nenagh Library Scrabble Club
Every Friday Morning from 10:30am to 12:30pm Nenagh Library host a Scrabble club to encourage to come to the library, have fun and engage in a great board game.
Scrabble is an American made board game which involves up to four players who can score points by placing letter tiles on spaces around the board. The tiles are placed in a similar way to a crossword where words must be formed left to right in rows or downward.
Each letter tile is marked with a number from one to ten based on its frequency in the English language which are then counted. Common letters are worth one point with less common letters being worth more points. Each set of Scrabble tiles also contains two blank squares which can be substituted for any letter but cannot be replaced thereafter. Specific coloured squares also provide more points for players when they are hit, for example dark red, light red, dark blue, light blue and orange, pink and green. These multiply the value of the letter placed on top by doubling and tripling the value of the letters or whole words.
All words between two and fifteen letters in length can be accepted when playing the game provided, they appear in the dictionary of the English language which has been agreed as the standard for the game. Players win the game depending on the number of points scored during the round. The scarcer the letters used in each word the more likely it is that you will have the most points.
