‘Charles Bianconi – The Man Who Changed Ireland’ At Carrick Library

Charles Bianconi Carriage Service

Carrick Library are hosting a showing of the film ‘Charles Bianconi – The Man Who Changed Ireland’. The film by Bailey and Blake Productions looks at Bianconi’s life and the impact of his innovations on Ireland.

Coming to Ireland as an immigrant from Italy, Bianconi saw that the country was still dependent on slow methods of travel and that there was a huge need for quicker more reliable means of transport for the Irish people. Seeing the opportunity to provide this service he set up a passenger carrying coach system between Clonmel and Cahir in 1815. This service was gradually expanded to provide the first means of public transport and linking towns together resulting in economic and social growth.

The film will be followed by a talk given by filmmaker Oliver Fallen. The event will be held at 6:15pm on November 27th. For more information call 051640591 or email carricklibrary@tipperarycoco.ie
