The Paddy Fitzgerald Awards 2024 are due to take place on the 27th of October in Adare, Co. Limerick and in advance of these nine nominees have been announced. These nominees have been handpicked by the IFA County Executive in each jurisdiction in Munster including Tipperary North, Tipperary South, Cork Central, Cork North, Cork West, Clare, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford.
The Paddy Fitzgerald Awards originated in Limerick and were established in honour of dairy and livestock farmer Paddy Fitzgerald who during his life made huge contributions to his local community through his work in organisations such as the Irish Farmers’ Association, Cork Marts, Golden Vale Marts and Farmer Business Development (FBD).
To encourage other members of the farming community to carry on the legacy left by Mr. Fitzgerald, the Paddy Fitzgerald Award is presented to one person each year for their impact on their community through volunteering and other displays of commitment to the betterment of their communities.
FBD Trust Chairman, Micheal Berkery had this to say about FBD’s support of the awards and the important role of the awards: In FBD, we appreciate the value of community spirit and the important role played by volunteers up and down the country. Paddy Fitzgerald was a shining example of this through his work with Macra in Co Limerick, in the NFA and Cork Marts IMP. FBD is delighted to support this award, and we hope to see the spirit of Paddy Fitzgerald live on for many years to come”.
