Nenagh Community Benefits from Clúid Housing Biodiversity Plan Shortlisted for Social Impact Award 2024
Clúid Housing’s Biodiversity Plan in Nenagh has been shortlisted for the Irish Council for Social Housing Social Impact Challenge 2024. The winner of the challenge will be presented with their award at the ICSH Finance and Development Conference on the 16th of October 2024.
Clúid Housing have set up a plan to become greener and reduce their environmental impact contributing to the country’s climate action targets and creating a more sustainable future. Through the implementation of their Greening Plan, their Landscaping and Biodiversity Guide for New Developments and their endorsement of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan they aim to align their business with beneficial practices for nature and the environment while promoting residential engagement with a more sustainable lifestyle. They aim to provide Developers and Stakeholders with the knowledge to create public gardening spaces and open areas for the protection and enhancement of biodiversity.
These plans have also been put into action at Clúid Housing’s Ballygraigue scheme in Nenagh Co. Tipperary where they worked alongside the residents of the housing scheme to develop a sensory garden for communal use to foster biodiversity and an inclusive space for residents to experience nature. Other projects carried out at the housing site include planting a wildflower garden, creating a butterfly friendly garden, putting together herb beds and a polytunnel, developing an orchard, setting up signage and bird feeders and building a workshop to make preserves from the produce grown on site.
Speaking about the 2024 Impact Challenge, Chief Executive of the Irish Council for Social Housing, Donal McManus said: “This award is about recognising an AHB or local authority initiative that has taken a proactive and pioneering approach to improving the sustainability and well-being of the community in which they serve. Clúid Housing’s Biodiversity Plan is a multifaceted AHB project that seeks to shape the environmental impact of not only its own housing operations, but also those of Clúid’s contractors, partners, suppliers and residents.”
