Men Across Tipperary Encourage to Make the Trip to Skerries and ‘Strip, Dip and Scare the Fish’ for Men’s Cancer
Radio Nova’s Morning Glory presenters PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe have collaborated with The Mater Hospital Foundation to organise a fundraiser to raise awareness for men’s health. Men across Tipperary and the rest of the country are being encouraged to take the plunge into the sea in nothing but a dickie bow for men’s cancer.
The ‘Dickie Dip’ will be held on Saturday November 16th in Skerries in Dublin.
Since it was first run in 2019 ‘The Dickie Dip’ has raised a remarkable €414,000 for the provision of vital supports and services for patients in the Mater Hospital. This year the Mater Hospital and the Morning Glory hosts are striving to raise €120,000 for men’s cancer care.
To register for ‘The Dickie Dip’ simply fill out the short form here . Participants will receive their very own dickie bow as well as a personalised Eventmaster fundraising page which they can share with family members, friends and neighbours to raise much needed funds for the Mater Hospital. They will also be invited to join a Dickie Dip Facebook page where they will be able to meet with others undertaking the same challenge.
Speaking about the importance of ‘The Dickie Dip’ fundraiser, Mary Moorhead, Chief Executive of the Mater Hospital Foundation said: “The Dickie Dip is back for 2024, and we are delighted to see our community of dippers continue to grow! We are thrilled to have the support of PJ and Jim for this year’s event and hope that their involvement will inspire and encourage brave men from all over Ireland to come along and get involved in Skerries on Saturday, 16th November. The commitment of our dippers to support men’s cancer care in the Mater is so inspiring and we continue to be humbled by their incredible fundraising every year.”
“On behalf of all of us in the Foundation and the Hospital, we’d like to say a special thanks to PJ and Jim for kindly giving their time to support this important event and for daring to dip this November! Our thanks to our wonderful Dickie Dip Skerries Committee, to our friends in Fingal County Council and to everyone who dips or donates to support this important cause. With your support, we can continue to have a positive impact on the lives of our brothers, sons, fathers, uncles, husbands and more, being treated for cancer in the Mater Hospital.”
Commenting on their involvement in the fundraiser, PJ Gallagher and Jim McCabe said:
PJ Gallagher: “Everyone knows I love getting up for the craic at the crack of dawn with Jim, so getting up for hundreds of dawning cracks will be an unreal experience for a brilliant cause! It doesn’t matter who you are or what shape you’re in, just wear a Dickie Bow and come and join us for the fun.”
Jim McCabe: “I would have said there’s never a good reason for a middle-aged man to walk into the sea in the nip, turns out I was wrong! Cancer Care at the Mater Hospital is a great reason. So, assuming there’s nothing in the sea to nip me while I’m in the nip, I’m happy to help with PJ and it’s great that there is no need for us to worry about a dress code for the day.”
