Meeting Called to Plan Removal of Giant Hogweed in Cappawhite
Landowners, business owners, community groups, locals and other agencies in the Cappawhite area are being invited to Cappawhite Community Centre on Thursday October 24th at 7pm where a meeting is being held to discuss the issues of Giant Hogweed infestations along tributaries of the Mulkear/Dead River catchment.
The meeting organised by the Local Authority Water Programme, Tipperary County Council and other partners will propose measures for the removal of Giant Hogweed in these areas. Through their Farming for Water Programme the Local Authority Water Programme and partners will supervise the elimination of the plant. If it is not eradicated Giant Hogweed can be detrimental to the local biodiversity, ecology because of the nature of its rapid growth and spread and even water quality which is hugely affected by siltation that occurs once the plant naturally dies off in the colder months exposing soil.
Further details about the extermination programme will be revealed at the meeting in Cappawhite Community Centre. If you wish to contact the team involved, please email info@watereip.ie or call the EIP team on 062 33063
