Drought Keeps Championship Hopes Strong With Spanish Success

Nicole Drought wins in Spain

Nicole Drought celebrates Spanish success with Navarra circuit owner Johnathan Palmer

Ireland’s top female racing driver, Nicole Drought has further increased her championship lead following an impressive win at Navarra in northern Spain last weekend.

The Roscrea native drove admirably in testing on Friday clocking close times with her two main championship rivals. She qualified in imposing fashion setting a time almost a second faster than her testing time the previous day, however she was narrowly beaten to pole position in the final minutes of qualifying by the Air Supply VW Golf which qualified just .08 of a second faster than Drought’s time.

A good start meant that Nicole briefly got past the Golf to lead the race. The Golf came back alongside down the main straight and forced Drought to move her Civic in behind losing the lead. A few laps later she went on the attack again and took the lead for the final time into turn 3.

An incident involving the P2 and P3 cars meant that Nicole Drought’s lead was cemented. She maintained her lead to the end of the race bringing home the EBC Brakes Civic winning the penultimate round of the 2024 MSVR Trackday Championship bring her lead to 13 points heading into the final race of the championship which will be held at the Brands Hatch Circuit in Kent in three weeks’ time.

Speaking about her latest victory Nicole Drought had this to say:

“As soon as I saw the calendar for 2024, I really wanted to take a win in Spain, and I am delighted to have managed it. The times were really close all weekend and I would like to thank Motion Motorsport for pre-race prep and setup, ProAM Racing and others for their help all weekend, and Donal Loughrey who helped so much with prep and strategy. I would have preferred if Justin was with us to enjoy the win, but he will be back for Brands, and we will be bringing our A game to try and win this title.
Big thanks, as ever, to Siltex Safety, Gem Oils, Joe Mallon Motors and ITM Digital for their support.”
