Clonmel Library Embracing Positive Aging By Bringing Back Hollywood’s Golden Age Films
Clonmel Library E91 YW66 is bringing back the golden years of Hollywood with their ‘Age Friendly Film Club’. The club which takes place on the last Wednesday of each month will showcase the defining moments from the annals of cinema. This event was established to create a social environment where older people can relive watching their favourite films on the big screen.
Creating a space catered to older people where they can watch films from their younger years is valuable for the well-being of these elderly people. It allows them to reminisce on pleasant memories they have from when they first watched these movies. Watching films also provides mental simulation for older people to prevent boredom. The social environment created by watching films in a group setting is the most beneficial element of a club such as this one for aging people. Many older people may live alone and due to many factors may not have the opportunity to meet others and create friendships like they did in their youth. These environments give older members of the community back the opportunity to meet those of a similar age, with similar interests.
Tea and Biscuits will be provided at the film screening and films will be chosen on the day. The film club will begin on the specified days at 2pm. The next film screening will take place on October 30th. For more information on the film club call 052 616 6130
