Twenty-Five Projects in Tipperary Receive Funding Under Community Climate Action Programme

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications

Under the Community Climate Action Programme, twenty-seven million euro is being allocated to local authorities to be provided to partnering community groups for initiatives like community composting, community gardens, EV charging areas and solar energy projects.

The fund will be provided to local authority groups with partnering community groups with amounts of up to €100,000 provided for larger local projects over an 18-month period. The Community Climate Action Programme consists of two Strands (Strand 1 and Strand 1a). Strand 1 focuses on the development of low carbon communities in the State. Strand 1a is funded by the Government’s Shared Island fund and was developed to support cross border and whole island initiatives which contribute to the nation’s climate and energy targets.

Commenting on the allocations of funding under the Community Climate Action Programme, Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan said:

“Place-based solutions deliver climate actions that really work because they are developed and underpinned by local authority leadership and community ownership. I’m really excited to see the first projects under this strand of the Community Climate Action Programme announced and look forward to seeing how their development will make these communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Importantly, we are also enabling community climate action on a cross-border basis, as part of the government’s Shared Island initiative.

“In addition to this large-scale funding I have recently launched a community climate engagement fund, to enable organisations to talk about and build greater awareness of actions they are taking and the impact they are having on their community. Every place and every person matters in designing and developing climate solutions that work for communities and make their lives better.”

Under Strand 1 and Strand 1a of the Community Climate Action Programme, funding has been provided for 25 projects in Tipperary. The total funding under each Strand is outlined in the following table.

Tipperary  Allocation   Number of Projects
Strand 1   €700,000  24
Strand 1a   €100,000  1
