Thurles Library Host Talk on Seed Planting for Sustainable Development Goals Week 2024
On Monday, September 23rd, Michael Maher, gardener at Ballyfin House Co. Laois will be presenting a free workshop on all things planting.
Ballyfin House is famous for its picturesque gardens which are set amongst 614 acres of land surrounding the house itself. The walled garden and kitchen garden were laid out in the 1800’s and are inspired by a natural style of gardening.
This workshop hosted by Thurles Library will be part of Sustainable Development Goals Week 2024 and through this seminar Mr. Maher will impart his extensive knowledge of planting from seeds to attendees providing them with the skills to live in a more sustainable way. The expertise which will be shared on this course ties in with Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production as it relates to living a sustainable lifestyle in unity with nature. This is also beneficial for preventing excessive food waste, which is also part of the Responsible Consumption and Production Sustainable Development Goal.
During the workshop Michael Maher will cover topics including growing your own salads, herbs and vegetables, growing your own plants from seeds, self-sufficiency and seed growing techniques.
The ‘Seed’ workshop will begin at 2:30pm and can be booked in person at Thurles Library or by calling 052 – 6166131
