Narrative 4 Youth Empathy Programmes to be Implemented in Tipperary Schools and Youth Groups
The highly acclaimed national youth empathy charity Narrative 4 will expand its programmes into youth organisations and schools across Tipperary over the coming months. Narrative 4 programmes are designed to promote wellbeing and connection in young people through storytelling and exchanging experiences.
Research completed into the Narrative 4 programme has shown that it can reduce stress in young people, increase their ability to identify with others, boost positive emotions and strengthen relationships.
In preparation for the roll out of its programmes across the county Narrative 4 is offering subsidised training for youth workers and teachers to help them learn how to foster empathy and connection in their communities. The ‘train the trainer’ programme has already facilitated guidance for over 1,100 secondary school teachers and youth workers in 302 schools nationwide. Narrative 4’s ‘train the trainer’ programme aims to provide these community leaders and educators with the skills to support the mental health, team building and resilience of the young people they work with.
Commenting on the roll out of their programmes across Tipperary, Dr. James Lawlor, Director of Narrative 4 said:
“Young people in Tipperary and across Ireland face huge challenges these days. Research shows that issues surrounding social media, peer pressure, anxiety, body image, bullying, and racism are all too prevalent. The research shows that young people feel disconnected, lonely and isolated. By focusing on empathy, young people can become empowered to connect better, understand and support each other. This social connection is the foundation for tackling social division and building bridges to create a kinder, more inclusive and compassionate country.”
“Our Story Exchange process equips teachers with practical tools to address wellbeing in the classroom, ensuring that students are academically prepared and emotionally supported.” Dr. Lawlor explained.
Speaking about his hope for Narrative 4’s impact on the future of empathy and connection in communities in this country, Dr. Lawlor said:
“It feels like we are at a real tipping point regarding the challenges out there. The world needs empathy like never before. We are, therefore, eager to take this work further.” “Our vision is to make empathy and connection a cornerstone of Irish education and community life. Together, we can create a future where understanding and compassion prevail over division and discord.”
