Cabragh Wetlands Hosts Ecology Fieldwork Workshop for Junior Cycle Teachers
The Cabragh Wetlands are running an ecology fieldwork workshop for post primary teachers who want the opportunity to develop their skills in habitat study and field work for ecology. The workshop will take place on Saturday, September 28th in The Cabragh Wetlands (E41 T266) beginning at 10am and finishing at 1pm.
The workshop will involve hands-on fieldwork techniques and resources for habitat study. It will be particularly aimed at teachers of the Junior Cycle who are knowledgeable in physics and chemistry but may not be as confident in biology.
Louise Garcia and Marie Lawlor will facilitate the course. Louise Garcia has over twenty years experience teaching biology for secondary school. She also works as a Principal Examiner for A Level Biology. Marie Lawlor is a secondary school science teacher with over sixteen years of experience teaching the biology course.
Throughout the three-hour course many topics will be covered including safety in fieldwork, methods for measuring and sampling biodiversity, plant and invertebrate identification resources, identifying suitable habitats for fieldwork close to the school and applying the Investigation in Science element of Strand 1 to ecology fieldwork.
This course is free to attend and can be booked through this link . Teachers interested in taking part in this workshop should be advised that there are only 20 spaces available. This course must be booked by September 27th at 5pm to reserve your place.
