Nicole Drought will drive the 1989 Team Ireland Chevrolet Lumina NASCAR on Sunday in Mondello Park

Roscrea racer Nicole Drought is set to take the wheel of the 1989 Team Ireland Chevrolet Lumina NASCAR at the Carole Nash Historic Festival in Mondello Park next Sunday. Drought has previously driven the Lola T70 – Chevrolet and the C86 from the Martin Birrane Collection in demonstrations and is looking forward to the prospect of trying the Team Ireland Chevrolet.  

The Team Ireland Chevrolet contains a 5.8 litre V8 engine and would in its day have been capable of reaching 200mph on the US oval circuits. The car is normally housed at the Mondello Park Museum but will be showcased to the public for this special event.  

Speaking about the opportunity she has been given to drive the Chevrolet Lumina NASCAR, Nicole Drought said: “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of such an iconic car.  “I’ve been lucky enough to have driven many different historic cars, but I have seen and heard the Chevrolet before, it looks, and sounds, awesome. I have to thank the Birrane family for once again entrusting me with one of the incredible cars from the Martin Birrane Collection! It is always a fantastic event so if you are attending, please come and say hi!” 

The Carole Nash Historic Festival is taking place over the coming weekend of the 10th and 11th of August at Mondello Park (W91 T957). Tickets for this event are available here . Tickets for adults over the age of 16 are priced at €31.00, Tickets for children aged 8-15 are priced at €11.00, Family tickets (2 + 2) can be purchased for €65.00, Children aged 7 and under and Carers can enter for free. Doors for this festival will open at 10am on Saturday and Sunday. This festival promises to be a great day out for all motorsport enthusiasts.
