The ‘Circling the Square’ Festival is coming to the Source Arts Centre this October to celebrate its third year running. The festival is based around the legacy and work of Thurles born poet Dennis O’Driscoll and welcomes poets from across the country and beyond to stage their works and the works of O’Driscoll.

This year the festival will run from Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th of October with three main performances taking place on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening. These performances will combine the artistic elements of music and poetry to form a magical experience. A stellar lineup of poets will perform including Rita Ann Higgins, Thomas McCarthy, Mark Roper and more. These poets will be accompanied by singers and musicians from across a range of musical genres including Gina Oberoi – Engela, Hugh Buckley, Lorcan Lyons, Ed Dwan Quartet, Eilish Hassett, Ceola and many others.

The programme will also include a school conference and two workshops for beginner poets. On Sunday the 20th, a discussion panel titled Finding Words: What is Poetry Now will propose interesting talking points and ideas on this topic from poetry experts. A guided walk of Thurles town based around Dennis O’Driscoll will also take place on the final day of the festival. The festival will conclude with an open mic night for emerging poets.

Details of the various individual events taking place as part of the festival will be announced soon. Further information will be available on the Source Arts Centre Website   in due course.
