IFA President Francie Gorman said ‘Budget 2025 will be the most important for farmers during the lifetime of this Government.

The IFA have launched their Pre – Budget submission ‘Supporting the Sustainable Development of the Food and Farming Sector. At the launch Francie Gorman highlighted the issues facing farmers’ viability.

In a meeting with Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Agriculture this week, Francie Gorman said the issues of squeezed margins and excessive costs need additional targeted supports in the October Budget.

“The National Farm Survey released by Teagasc earlier this week provides all the evidence that’s needed for the Government. No sector is immune from the vice grip of escalating costs, greater regulations and price volatility, all of which are having an impact on farm income.”

“We emphasised to the Minister and his officials that farmers, across all sectors, need greater support than ever to provide a shelter for families and farm operations,” he said.

The IFA President said the submission also deals with measures needed to incentivise new farmers into the sector, protect genuine farmers and promote climate action.

“IFA will mount a nationwide campaign between now and Oct 1st, engaging directly with politicians about the key measures needed for farmers,” he added.
