60% of GoCar users would be likely to purchase a private car if they didn’t have access to the car sharing service

Ireland’s number one car and van sharing service, GoCar has revealed data which highlights the growing demand for services of this kind in the country, especially in urban areas. According to the survey completed 50% of people use this service in place of having a second car. Sixty percent of people have also said that if car sharing services were not available, they would have to purchase a private vehicle. GoCar have now launched dedicated car sharing bays in Leitrim, Donegal and Tipperary.

The research was released before the 24th of July, an initiative aimed at promoting more sustainable transport options. The initiative looks to educate people on the benefits of car sharing. In a bid to reduce the number of privately owned cars on Irish roads GoCar have also launched the GoRewards scheme. This scheme was created to reward customers for using car sharing services. Customers will receive 5 points for every euro spent on trips. Points can then be used in 500-point increments for €5 discounts and 1000 for €10 discounts and so on.

Speaking about the initiative, Joe Quirke, Head of GoCar, said, “By placing just one GoCar in a locality, we keep approximately 30 private cars off roads. GoCar provides the convenient alternative to private car use and with the launch of GoRewards, not only can customers save on the cost and overheads of a private car but now we’re rewarding our customers every time they choose to car share for a trip.

“Following the launch of dedicated GoCar bays in Leitrim, Tipperary and Donegal, we are now Ireland’s only car sharing service with locations in all 26 counties, demonstrating our commitment to serving communities across Ireland who want an alternative to a private car.”
