Lough Derg RNLI Assist 2 People on Stranded Boat
Lough Derg RNLI lifeboat was dispatched to locate a casualty vessel with 2 people on board. The casualties were stranded close to the shore in a sandy area of Youghal Bay after their boat’s engine failed. The lifeboat navigated a safe course to the stranded vessel and the passengers were told to reboard their boat. The lifeboat then safely pulled the vessel off the sandbank and back into safe water.
As the passengers on the casualty vessel were found in a remote location with no access to dry clothes, their car, or trailer they had to be towed to where they could retrieve their belongings at Garrykennedy Harbour. Along with an RNLI Volunteer the passengers were towed by the lifeboat crew back to Garykennedy in their boat. When they arrived at Garykennedy the casualty vessel was safely tied, and the lifeboat departed.
Jeremy Freeman, Launching Authority at Lough Derg RNLI gave advice to boat users: “wear your lifejackets, and always carry a means of communication”.
