Clonmel Laptop Ensemble are a chamber music ensemble with a difference.
The instruments are laptop computers and synthesizers, the score isn’t read from a sheet but generated by computer code and the ambient sounds produced are accompanied by an immersive visual production and innovative lighting. Clonmel Laptop Ensemble is the brainchild of Tipperary musicians, Eamon O’Malley and John O’Dwyer, both well-known for their involvement in the music scene in and around Tipperary over the last decade. The ensemble is complete with the talented creative technologist Sarah Loh and gifted analogue synthesist Michael Jones.
From their first performance at the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival 2019, they immediately began work on a brand new piece of work for a performance on Culture Night 2019, where they were featured on the RTE Radio 1 arts show, Arena and highlighted as a selected event of the evening. The Ensemble were then invited to be the closing act for the Z E I T 4 Electronic Music Festival 2019 where they featured on a bill with some of Ireland’s ‘hidden gems’ of the experimental electronic music scene. Expect immersive and interactive lighting and visuals from this new digital arts ensemble which sees musicians, computer programmers and audio-visual specialists working together to bring something new and exciting to the live performance scene.
