Tipperary GAA Scene 19th November

PRO Joe Bracken

Best wishes to three Tipperary clubs in Munster club action this weekend. In the main event, Borris-Ileigh are finalising preparations for their AIB Munster Senior Club Hurling Final clash with Ballygunner (Waterford) on Sunday next, November 24th in Páirc UÍ Rinn. Hopefully, Borris-Ileigh will go on and emulate the team of 1986 that captured the clubs only senior provincial crown. Throw-in is at 2pm and the referee will be Johnny Murphy (Limerick).

While on Saturday next, November 23rd, Carrick Davins make the short trip to Clonmel Sportsfield to take on St. Marys (Waterford) in the AIB Munster Junior Club Hurling Semi-final at 1pm. The winners will play Russell Rovers (Cork) in the final on December 8th in Mallow.

Also, on Saturday, Mullinahone will take on Croom (Limerick) in the AIB Munster Junior Club Football Semi-final at 1pm in Templetuohy.

Congratulations to Clonmel Commercials as they qualified for the AIB Munster Senior Club Football Final on Sunday week, following their 0-9 to 0-7 defeat of St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay in the semi-final on Sunday last. This win sets them up for a rematch of the 2015 Munster decider against Nemo Rangers (Cork), which Commercials won in dramatic fashion.

Elsewhere, in the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Football semi-final, commiserations to Moycarkey-Borris as their journey ended following a 0-12 to 0-5 defeat to St. Breckans (Clare).

Best wishes to Tipperary referee, John McCormack (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) as he takes charge of the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Final on Sunday next in Fraher Field between Fr. O’Neills (Cork) and Ballysaggart (Waterford).

Well done to David Grogan as he refereed the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Football quarter-final last Saturday between Ballyduff Lower (Waterford) and Croom (Limerick).

Tipperary lost out to Kilkenny in the ‘New York Classic’ semi-final at Citi Field last weekend. In the other semi-final, Limerick got the better of Wexford to set up a final against Kilkenny, with ‘the Cat’s’ claiming the honours after the day’s play.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. This is the most common cancer worldwide, affecting millions of people every year. Smoking is linked to about 80% of lung cancer deaths; quitting smoking at any stage can greatly reduce the risk of lung cancer.

These statistics should encourage clubs if they have not already done so to consider acting on ‘No Smoking Initiatives’ on their premises and grounds in 2020.

The long dark evenings and cold weather has arrived please remember a phone call or a visit to neighbours living alone will always be appreciate.
