Midway Look at the 2019 Super League

We have reached the midway point of the 2019 Super League season and it is St Helens who lead the way in the table with 26 points. Justin Holbrook’s side have easily been the pick of the teams in the campaign so far as they have lost just one of their 14 games.

Saints won the League Leaders’ Shield last year but failed to progress through to the Grand Final after losing 13-8 to Warrington Wolves. The team in 2019 look more clinical as they have proved recently with some big scorelines in their favour.

The pick of the players in the St Helens dressing room has been Regan Grace, who is getting better with every game in the Super League. He has scored 12 tries in 2019 and that number is sure to increase considerably before the end of the regular season.

St Helens have rugby league odds of 6/5 to win the Grand Final and they do look to be the team to beat in all competitions. Holbrook’s men have something to prove when it comes to the crunch tie in the knockout stages at the back end of the year and they will be well aware of that.

Warrington Wolves

Chasing St Helens in second place in the Super League table are Warrington Wolves who will be pleased with the start they have made as they have won 11 of their 14 matches with a points tally of 22.

Wolves have been heavy scorers this season as their points difference is +202, only Saints have a better for-against record than that. They are currently six points clear of third place, therefore, look good for a home game in the playoffs at the end of the campaign.

Blake Austin has been the standout player for Warrington as he tops the Super League for tries with 14 to his name. The former Canberra Raiders stand-off has made the perfect start to life in the Super League and can help Wolves push for another place in the Grand Final in October.

Wakefield Trinity

One of the surprise packages in the Super League this season are the Wakefield Trinity as they are third in the standings with an impressive eight wins from 14. The West Yorkshire have never been to the Grand Final before, however, their fans are starting to dream of a run to Old Trafford following their positive start.

Trinity have had good wins over Huddersfield and Leeds recently, both of those games went down to the wire but it was Wakefield who edged them to keep up their good start.

Winger Tom Johnstone is considered to be one of the best young players in the Super League and he continues to shine for Trinity. If they continue with the performances they are putting in, expect to see them in playoffs later this year.

June could be a big month for Wakefield as they have games against Leeds, Warrington and Salford. If they come through that run with points, they will have proved they are the real deal.

All roads lead to Old Trafford once again in the Super League with the Grand Final taking place on October 12th.
