Waiting Times at Rape Crisis Centre Shameful – McCormack

A substantial increase in waiting times for rape crisis counselling has been condemned as shameful and unacceptable by Sinn Féin general election candidate Ciara McCormack.
Waiting Times at Rape Crisis Centre Shameful – McCormackSpeaking on the issue, McCormack said:
“Waiting times at rape crisis centres across the state have increaesed, however funding has remained stagnant.
“At the Midwest Rape Crisis Centre which serves Tipperary, the average wait for ongoing counselling has increased from three months to six months over the last year.
“Despite the increase in demand and appointments, funding is still at 2013 levels.
“It’s completely unacceptable that rape victims should be left in such a limbo.
“When it comes to public services too many women are treated appallingly.
“We’ve seen it with the Cervical Check scandal, and we see it here once again with rape victims.
“I would call on all relevant agencies and bodies to do what they can to support this much needed service.”
