Today marks 1,000 edition of Tipperary Talking Newspapers for the Blind

Wednesday, 21 November 2018 Will be a landmark date for Tipperary Talking Newspapers, a voluntary operated service providing an abridged collection of news items derived from  the 3 local weekly newspapers, which is sent out to blind and visually impaired people throughout the county.  The Loyal volunteers will be editing the 1,000th edition and preparing to celebrate providing the free service to visually impaired individuals for nearly 25 years.

The service has moved from using audio cassettes to digital media and in recent months has been piloting an online resource for blind users to receive it on their accessible smart phones and digital devices.  We wish to extend our appreciation of all those volunteers who participated in running the service throughout this quarter century  as without their support the service would not have survived. Thanks is also afforded to the local newspapers and the general public who have financially supported our annual fundraising appeals which maintained the operation of the service.

If you are acquainted with an individual suffering from sight loss, tell them about our free service and if they wish to contact us in relation to receiving the service, our phone number is 0504 90695 where they can leave their contact details and a convenient time to call them back.  Well done All!
