County Council instructed to re-advertise public notice regarding proposed works to Ardfinnan Bridge – Lonergan

Independent County Councillor for Conmel/Cahir Borough District, Martin Lonergan is advising members of the public that did not make submissions or observations on proposed works and alterations to the traffic arrangement on Ardfinnan Bridge, that the opportunity to do so has arisen following An Bord Pleanála’s instruction to Tipperary County Council to re-advertise the public notice in the local press this week.

Commenting on the information Councillor Lonergan said, “An Bord Pleanála has requested Tipperary County Council to re-advertise the public notice for remedial/repair works on Ardfinnan Bridge, alterations to the traffic arrangement and they also require an additional 4 prescribed bodies to be consulted on the County Council’s application.

The four additional bodies are Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport, the Heritage Council and the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment.

Further submissions and observations by the public can be made from 16th March to 3rd May, 2018. It is important to note that any person or organisation who has already made a submission/observation on this particular application to An Bord Pleanála need not and should not repeat the submissions/observations already made to An Bord Pleanála as their initial submission/observation will be taken into account.

An Bord Pleanála have also advised that they are processing the application and have appointed an inspector to review the file and the significant number of submissions and observations received to date by them.

Concluding Cllr. Lonergan said, “Unfortunately, this will no doubt delay An Bord Pleanála’s decision which was due on 14th June next. The main issue is, as I have always stated, that remedial and repair works which are badly required, be carried out as soon as possible and traffic management issues be tended to thereafter. It had been hoped that works could commence on bridge repair works whatever the outcome regarding the traffic management in the latter part of Summer 2018, however, this may now be in jeopardy. Nevertheless, the instruction provides members of the public, who were unable to make an observation or submission in the previous call, the ability the do so before the 3rd May, 2018.”

The prescribed bodies who have already received the plans are:

• Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gealtacht
• Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government
• An Chomhairle Ealaíon
• Fáilte Ireland
• An Taisce
• Inland Fisheries Ireland
• Waterways Ireland

The Previous closing date for submissions was 9th February last.
