Sage – Free Support and Advocacy services to vulnerable adults
Sage is an independent HSE supported organisation that offers free Support and Advocacy services to vulnerable adults which tend to be, primarily, the elderly and disabled. In providing those services SAGE offers to protect the rights and dignity of these vulnerable people, ensuring their views, opinions and preferences are understood and respected and are part of any discussion or resolution keeping the individual front and centre when issues and cases arise. Our work strives to eliminate or prevent abuse or bullying and avoid having these people being taken advantage of. SAGE will only act with the full consent of the person or individual involved. The promotional tagline used by SAGE tries to cover that under the tagline ‘Nothing about You / Without You’.
SAGE doesn’t proactively seek out cases or issues but merely acts on referrals. Hence, the need for word to get ‘out and about’ to those that may be in positions that may hear of or come across such situations. SAGE is not a befriending organisation but one that deals with cases as they arise and where there is work for a closure / solution to be reached. Solutions could involve family and sometimes it might not involve family as you might appreciate. In all cases a certified SAGE Advocate takes on a case and works to reach a solution.
