Tipperary Ladies Football Senior Championship Final

Tipperary Ladies Football supporters were treated to another thrilling game of football when Brian Borus competed against Cahir in the Senior Championship County Final. Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town was the venue for the Final on Saturday last and there was a large attendance at the game following on from the County teams success in the All Ireland Intermediate Final.


The game started with an intensity and Aishling Moloney, Cahir was first to the scoreboard with a point in the opening minute. In the following minute she recorded another and Roisin Howard got Cahir’s third point in the fourth minute. Eimear Myles, Brian Borus captain, got their first score in the tenth minute. Cahir was dominating the play and on the twelfth minute they were rewarded with a green flag when Aishling Moloney punched a ball into the back of the net from the edge of the square. The following score came from Aisling McCarthy, a point came as the game turned into the second quarter, Cahir 1-4 Brian Borus 0-1. Brian Borus, Eimear Myles traded points with Roisin Howard, Cahir before Aishling Moloney punched another ball into the back of the net. Trisha Hickey quickly replied with a goal for Brian Borus to bring them back into the game but a further goal and two points for Moloney extended their advantage. Brian Borus added a further three points to go in at half time Cahir 3-7 Brian Borus 1-5.

The second half opened with a goal from Laura Morrissey for Brian Borus’s in the second minute and everyone wondered if they would make their comeback from this. Aisling McCarthy, Cahir pointed in the thirty fourth minute and for the next few minutes the ball flowed from one in to the end. In the fortieth minute Trisha Hickey, Brian Borus traded pointed frees with Aisling McCarthy. The intensity of the game was building and a foul on Aishling Moloney by Jennifer Grant resulted in a penalty for Cahir. Jennifer Grant received a yellow card and Aisling McCarthy kicked the resultant penalty low and hard over the line and into the net. The next pointed free from Aisling McCarthy gave Cahir a margin of ten points as they entered the final fifteen minutes. In the forty sixth minute Trisha Hickey pointed for Brian Borus. Both teams battled hard to find the scores in the following minutes and the next score was a pointed free from Trisha Hickey in the fifty seventh minute just before Amy Sweeney was sinbinned for Brian Borus. Having played most of the second half with just fourteen players Brian Borus would be dealt another card when Trisha Hickey received a red for a high tackle on Aisling McCarthy. As the game moved into injury time Orla McEniry raised the green flag for Cahir while Mairead Morrissey pointed a free for Brian Borus to leave the final score – Cahir 5-10 Brian Borus 2-9.


Chairperson, Biddy Ryan presented the Player of the Match to Aishling Moloney congratulating her on her talent and skill. Aoife Casey accepted the Joe McGrath Memorial Cup on behalf of the Cahir team thanking her opponents, supporters and management team. Cahir will now look forward to competing in the Munster Senior Club Championship next Sunday against Southern Gaels, Kerry at a venue and time to be confirmed.

Tipperary Ladies Football Intermediate Championship Final

In the Tipperary Ladies Football Intermediate Championship Final, Clonmel Commercials defeated Ardfinnan on Saturday last on a score line Clonmel Commercials 5-15 Ardfinnan 3-2. Clonmel Commercials will play Ballyduff, Waterford in the Munster Club Championship on Friday night at a venue and time to be confirmed.


Tipperary Ladies Football Senior Plate Championship Final

Aherlow defeated Moyle Rovers in the Tipperary Ladies Football Senior Plate Championship Final on Saturday last on a score line of Aherlow 4-8 Moyle Rovers 1-6.


Munster Junior Club Championship Quarter Final

Congratulations to Fethard Ladies Football Club who defeated St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield (Clare) in the Munster Junior Club Championship Semi Final. Fethard started the Quarter Final well, going in at half time with a lead of nine points; Fethard 2-09 St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield 0-06. St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield fought back in the second half to bring the margin down to a single point finishing the game; Fethard 2-15 St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield 4-8. Fethard will now play Aghada (Cork) on Saturday next in the Munster Junior Club Championship Semi Final at a venue and time to be confirmed.
