It’s Time For Trip To Tipp 2017
The annual ‘Trip to Tipp’ in aid of the ‘National Council for the Blind of Ireland’ takes place on Sunday the 1st October.
The highly popular event, now in it’s 22nd year, is bound to attract much interest given it is open to cyclists, walkers or runners.
Thurles Sarsfields GAA Club is the assembly point for all events.
Cyclists can assemble for the cycle that starts at 9.30 am. There is a choice of a 120KM Glen of Aherlow challenge, a scenic tour that stretches to some 60 KM and a family Fun Cycle of 6km.
Walkers can enjoy a 6km walk commencing at 11am and runners can compete in a 6KM road run which gets underway at 11am.
There is a timed run with prizes for the first 3 men and 3 women to cross the finish line.
Organiser Billy Shanahan says the ‘Trip to Tipp’ is now a firm favourite in the sporting calendar. “It is a great event and I love organising it every year. I have a great team with me and we all put our shoulders to the wheel. We get huge support from the people in our local community and there is a groundswell of help and goodwill. There is always a great atmosphere on the day and people are buzzing with the various challenges. It is a family day and a great community day and getting out in the fresh air is an added bonus”. He adds that “Cyclists who register online for the 120 or 60 km events can avail of a reduced fee and there will be refreshments ,goodie bag and certificate of completion for all those who take part”. Billy stresses “The NCBI does amazing work and needs the funding events like Trip to Tipp bring in. Please join us and enjoy the craic in the knowledge that you are helping people who are blind or visually impaired”.
This year’s Trip to Tipp is dedicated to the memory of Lorraine Shanahan RIP .
