Join Tipperary’s Top Adventure – Sunrise Summit Challenge at Galtymore 30th April
The Irish Red Cross 2017 Sunrise Summit Challenge will take place at Galtymore on Sunday 30th April. Now in its third year, this charity challenge will see participants hike through the early morning darkness to reach the mountain summits in time to witness the sunrise over Ireland.
With commanding views over the entire south-east of the country, Galtymore stands at 919 meters. The initial boggy trail makes way for a steep summit approach over red sandstone and conglomerate bedrock. Legend has it that it is inhabited by a snake banished there by St. Patrick.
The Sunrise Summit Challenge offers a unique opportunity to take part in an unforgettable charity trek adventure whilst raising funds for people in crisis in Ireland and around the world. In taking part and gaining sponsorship, the participants will be supporting the Irish Red Cross’ work in countries like Syria, Niger, Ireland and Nepal.
Irish Red Cross Sunrise Summit Coordinator Alison Byrne, said, “Thanks to adventurous, and generous, spirit of everyone who takes part, we are able to continue with our development programmes – like helping communities in Niger fight back against the constant threat of drought and starvation. As well as our emergency response work with flooded communities in Ireland and conflict-stricken Syria.”
