Tipperary Comhairle Youth Mental Health Wellness event in Nenagh Scouts Hall

On 19th July, Tipperary Comhairle hosted a youth mental health wellness event in Nenagh Scouts Hall to promote “positive mental health and wellness” the event is part of  Tipperary Comhairle work to promote positive mental health with young people and follows on from a national action in 2015 called “lets go mental” to highlight the importance of wellness and resilience in young people. Our event highlighted – Five a day for Mental health i.e. Connect, Be Active, Be Aware, Give, Get involved.

Young people attending were able to take part in workshop on Drama, thi chi, fun pilates which encourages youth to get active and involved and also have their say on youth mental health and what it means to them, there was music and a photo booth which helps young people to connect and have fun. Teenline were present to create awareness for youth that help is there if you need someone to talk to. In the” give” section – Comhairle members had an ice-cream stand where the proceeds will go to Down syndrome Ireland.

Nicole Patan from Thurles the current CoChair of Tipperary County Comhairle says that lets go mental is a fun way to highlight what you can do for yourself in keeping well and that she hopes that this event could be an annual event in Tipperary for young people.

Comhairle CoOrdinator for Tipperary, Pauline Strappe said “having the Comhairle keep youth mental health on the agenda of local and national decision makers is vital and having events like this for young people to highlight the importance of positive mental health and wellness will help break the stigma of talking about your mental health in everyday life”
