Limerick community and environment groups invited to free Trip to Tipp
The internationally recognised green neighbourhood of Cloughjordan Ecovillage is the host location for a free educational field trip being facilitated by Limerick City & County Council.
Ireland’s leading ecological community project is home to 55 low-energy buildings, different examples of rainwater harvesting and sustainable drainage systems, a biodiversity trail, sustainable transport solutions, and research and education gardens. The village, which is located in North Tipperary, also features a community-supported farm, a composting demonstration area, a wood-fired bakery and a green enterprise centre.
Sinead McDonnell, Environmental Awareness Officer says the free field trip on Tuesday, April 26th(leaving from Council Offices in Dooradoyle at 9.30am) is aimed at Tidy Towns groups, Public Participation Network (PPN) members, and other community and environmental groups throughout Limerick.
“Participants will visit Cloughjordan Ecovillage to see the many environmental features, and explore how we improve participation in the development of sustainable communities and the local economy,” she added.
The project is supported by the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund, which is funded by Limerick County Council and the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
