Tipperary County Council Outdoor Staff on verge of industrial action – Mattie McGrath
Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on Tipperary County Council to engage in immediate emergency dialogue with Union representatives of Tipperary County Council Outdoor Staff who are on the verge of industrial action over the removal of a bonus pay mechanism which has been in place since 1959. Deputy McGrath said he is deeply worried that the concerns of the staff are being completely ignored by senior management at the County Council:
“What I am hearing from affected staff is that there has been no meaningful engagement by the office of Tipperary County Councils Director of Services and Corporate Affairs. The Council have accepted without reservation a Labour Court Recommendation which the workers see as a deliberate attack on their living standards and conditions of pay.
This Friday in Cahir House Hotel the workers will ballot to ascertain which form of industrial action they will engage in as a last ditch attempt to force the Council to address their concerns.
This may mean all out strike or alternatively a work to rule approach.
The workers have also indicated that they will be looking for a full scale public review of the pay and privileges associated with the Councils County Manager and other senior staff along the lines of the recent review conducted by the board of the IFA,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
