Shauna Harris: Seven Deadly Sins

The Source Arts Centre, Thurles

Thursday 7th – Friday 22nd January

Thurles born artist Shauna Harris requires assistance for current exhibitionLocal artist Shauna Harris is currently utilizing the Source Arts Centre’s Gallery as a studio space to develop and present a series of images based on the seven deadly sins. A graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design with a degree in Painting, Harris’ practice is largely made up of photography and installation work. Harris requires the assistance of local people in the creation of the photographs and invites them to explore the meaning of the seven deadly sins with her.

The objective of the project is to create a series of images which are ultimately altered by the introduction of words such as wrath, greed, lust, sloth, pride, gluttony, and envy. Each participant is required to choose their own vice to represent, which can be executed in a serious or playful manner. 2016 is the Jubilee Year of Mercy (a period of remission of sins and universal pardons). In lieu of this, it is a perfect time to explore the representation and meaning of the Seven Sins.
Shoots will be taking place throughout the project to add to the collection which will be exhibited at the end of the two weeks. Participants must be over 18 and can call into the Source Arts Centre anytime between 10 am and 5 pm to participate.

A gallery talk will be given at 7:30 pm on Thursday 21st January by Harris and artistic director Brendan Maher, where the final images will be exhibited.

“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies and one who sows discord among brothers.”
proverbs 6:16-19
