Cork singer songwriter Clare O’Mahony returns with a brand new album backed by a fantastic new band. The first single taken from the album is the melodic ‘You Are Gonna Be Mine’, check out the video right here.
Clare’s forthcoming album Make Your Move is based around “catchy, pop-folk tunes, one of which earned her a place in the final of the IMRO Christie Hennessy Songwriting Competition 2015. The album features Mick Flannery on piano, Hugh Dillon on electric guitar, Tom Madden on acoustic guitar as well as the engineering skills of Bernard Quinn, (Villagers, Cathy Davey, Magic Numbers).
From Ballygarvan, Cork, Clare was always interested in music and played piano as a young child, starting at just 4 years of age! Clare’s musical interest was ignited with the likes of Irish songwriter Sinead Lohan as well as Tracy Chapman, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell all of whom really peaked Clare’s interest in songwriting and playing guitar. Having completed endless hours of practice playing along with these songwriters, Clare recorded herself into an old cassette player, and played it for a friend. It was only then that Clare discovered her unique voice, which has been likened to Joan Baez.
Clare, a graduate of the renowned Music Management and Sound course at Cork’s Colaiste Stiofain Naofa, began to pen her own songs while learning about songwriting, and performance. Clare’s debut album Secret World was well received and included two songs produced by Declan Sinnott. Clare went on to share the stage with James Blunt, Ron Hynes (Sonny’s Dream) as well as performing her own shows throughout Ireland. Clare has performed across parts of Canada including Toronto, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well as New York and Chicago.
“The voice is great and the songwriting is great” – Kieran Goss
“A singer-songwriter with a bright future” – Sinead Lohan
