Tipperary Regional Youth Service selected for ‘Connected Communities’ Award

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) has awarded €6,000 to Tipperary Regional Youth Service as part of a mental health promotion initiative. Tipperary Regional Youth Service’s ‘Live Your Life”  is an initiative working to bring together a number of evidence based programmes and events to support positive mental health in local communities across Tipperary. The Connected Communities initiative will work to build resilient youth communities in urban, rural and online settings.

Mary Cunningham, NYCI director said: “Tipperary Regional Youth Services’ project was chosen from among a large volume of high quality applications from all over Ireland, which shows just how good their work is. Each of the five selected projects is designed to increase resilience in the mental health of young people, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they have on their communities.”

Cora Horgan, Chief Executive of Tipperary Regional Youth Services shared the impact this funding will have on the service: “This funding means that we will be able to target resources at our young people who are often under the radar in terms of youth mental health, and have an impact on their lives in general, giving them the tools to connect with each other and to supports they might need.”

The Connected Communities initiative will work to build resilient youth communities in urban, rural and online settings. It is designed to enhance the resources people draw on to increase their confidence and self-esteem, their sense of connectedness and belonging, and their ability to bring about change in their lives and communities.   The Connected Communities initiative is coordinated by the National Youth Health Programme and supported by funding from the National Office of Suicide Prevention. €32,000 was awarded to 5 projects nationwide.
