St. Josephs College Borrisoleigh Music Tour to Cork City Hall

On Thursday the 5th of November, the music students of 1st, 2nd, 3rd & T.Y headed to Cork  for the day to attend a concert  at Cork City Hall by Cork Pops Orchestra. The theme of the concert was a celebration of song and dance. Dance music, all the way from Handel’s Zadok the Priest (recognised by  the students as the theme music for the Premiership!)   to the ballet music of Tchaikovsky was played by the orchestra with enlightening commentary by Evelyn Grant.

St. Josephs College Borrisoleigh Music Tour to Cork City HallKeith Hanley, Voice of Ireland 2013 winner performed some songs from Les Miserables  as well a number of gospel songs and spirituals. With lyrics projected on screen, audience participation was encouraged.  When Music Producer DJ Dashka joined Keith on stage showing how dance tunes are mixed, everyone was on their feet  dancing to their version of Cheerleader!

A trip to the English Market is an obligatory experience for any visitor to Cork and so we managed to fit this in before before the concert. As Cork is the home of the most prestigious art college in the country, we competed our cultural day with a tour of the Crawford Art Gallery, being informed about the various art works on display there.

It was a day of singing, dancing, sightseeing and a feast for all the senses!
