North TIpperary Macra Na Feirme
One of the biggest events in the Macra na Feirme calendar
North Tipp Macra have been quite involved at Queen of the Land in recent times and the calibre of candidates coming out of the region has been nothing short of excellent year in year out. This year, North Tipp’s representative is Nora Ryan. A proud member of Nenagh Macra, Nora has been a hugely active member of Macra na Feirme for the last three years.
Nora hails from the Long Stone in Toomevara. A proud Tipperary woman, Nora currently works in the County Boutique in Nenagh who has kindly sponsored her an outfit for the weekend and will soon graduate from the Limerick Institute of Technology with an honours degree in Marketing and Management.
After joining the local club in Nenagh three years ago, Nora, initially keen on meeting new people gradually realised that Macra provides many other opportunities that enable young people to develop their personalities and personal skills. Nora has been active and quite successful in many of the Macra competitions. From debating and public speaking to Gaelic Football and volleyball, Nora has increasingly grown in confidence and maturity that will enable her to carry herself with aplomb at this year’s Queen of the Land competition.
Nora is currently Chairperson of Nenagh Macra which has become quite a progressive and dynamic club in North Tipperary and as secretary for North Tipperary Macra, Nora plays a key role in the organisation of events and competitions for the region.
Local community projects such as the Halloween fundraiser for Billy’s Recovery Fund, Nenagh Macra’s Creative Writing competition and Tipperary’s Relay For Life, have all benefited greatly from Nora’s energy and input. Nora intends to continue driving Nenagh and North Tipp Macra into 2016 to ensure that Macra becomes a prominent and important outlet for young people in the local community.
Being from Toomevara, it comes as no surprise that Nora is a proud GAA fan. She also takes part in community walks and runs. She loves the outdoors and regularly helps out on the family farm.
“I would be honoured to be crowned as the 51st Queen of the Land and the first ever winner from North Tipperary. Macra is an outstanding organisation. I have experienced so much from it and I’d love to give back to that organisation that has given me so much.”
If you have yet to venture down to Tullamore for a Queen of the Land weekend, this is the year to do it. Nora has a huge chance of bringing home the crown to North Tipperary.
Queen of the Land takes place from the 13-15th November in the Bridge House Hotel Tullamore and this time, it is a weekend not to be missed.
