Clonmel has 6th highest home repossession levels – McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has said he disappointed but not surprised to see that Clonmel has recorded the 6th highest level of Circuit Court orders granted for repossession of primary homes. Deputy McGrath was speaking after it was reported in The Irish Times today that Banks have sought to repossess almost 4,500 homes since the start of the year:

These figures from the Courts Service of Ireland indicate that of the twenty six major city and urban areas, Clonmel is rated as having the sixth highest level of repossession orders.

This means that 17 families have experienced the trauma of eviction in the first quarter of this year alone.

It is also being reported that these numbers are in addition to the 7,100 dwellings lenders had already moved to repossess by January 1st, 2015.

This demonstrates that the absence of effective government policy is ongoing and cumulative.

For example the utter failure of the mortgage to rent scheme is one clear area of inexcusable weakness in the Governments approach to what is clearly a national crisis, ” concluded Deputy McGrath.
