Mr Alan Kelly T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, today (9 October, 2015), announced the successful Tipperary recipients of grant funding under the 2015 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund. This grant scheme promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at a local level.
The projects are being co-funded by the Department and local authorities; with €15,700 being provided by the Department and the same amount by Tipperary County Council. In total €31,400 is being provided under this year’s scheme, to a number of projects throughout the county. In addition to the funding provided by the Department and the local authorities, the successful applicants will also contribute funds raised locally, bringing the total shared partnership investment to almost €70,238.
Announcing the recipients of this year’s funding the Minister stated: “I am very pleased that my Department, in conjunction with local authorities, can assist the efforts of local communities here in Tipperary to make a real difference to their environment. The Local Agenda 21 scheme is focussed on assisting local small scale environmental projects and such projects will receive support from this year’s funding. I would like to thank these local groups and organisations for their dedication to improving their communities and increasing environmental awareness and I wish them every success with their projects.”
Nationally, projects are recommended for funding by local authorities, following an open call for applications. Funding goes to a wide range of local initiatives; including community gardens, environmental awareness programmes, waste reduction and biodiversity projects.
