The Source Arts Centre are hosting a fabulous evening of opera with a double bill about love, lies and infidelity from Opera Theatre Company. With almost three decades of touring opera nationwide, Ireland’s national touring opera company is known for its innovative productions, always using a daring and imaginative approach.
A Night at the Opera presented by Opera Theatre Company at The Source Arts Centre ThurlesWolf-Ferrari’s most popular work, Susanna’s Secret is a joyful and entertaining opera with a plot built around marital misunderstanding. Full of lively interaction, the piece has lots of fast-paced music and exquisite virtuosic singing.  OTC is delighted to have commissioned a fresh new translation from playwright Tom Swift for this production together with a new arrangement for piano trio by music director Andrew Synnott. Andrew is joined for Susanna’s Secret by the wonderful violinist Lynda O’Connor and cellist Ailbhe McDonagh.

Poulenc’s The Human Voice is the companion piece, a profound and moving opera, which follows a heart-broken woman, as she tries to connect to with her former lover. Kim Sheehan stars in The Human Voice and according to the Irish Times “soprano Kim Sheehan sings powerfully and movingly, the best I’ve ever heard her“.

While Susanna’s Secret explores how a tiny lie can grow into a much bigger misunderstanding, in The Human Voice we see a relationship torn apart by deceit, and defined by lies. This delightful double bill will appeal to the newcomer to opera as well as to a seasoned fan. All of the singers, Rachel Croash, Rory Musgrave and Kim Sheehan, as well as director Tom Creed and music director Andrew Synnott are members of the OTC OPERA HUB team.

The Human Voice “a brilliant short opera… simple, to the point… and real beauty in this 60-minute modernist gem” Irish Times

Susanna’s Secret  “executed with verve and elan… this lively translation was a hoot”   Irish Examiner
