The Abbey brings educational theatre for schools to The Source Arts Centre

Me, Michael

The Abbey Theatre has had a long association with touring nationally and internationally. It first toured in 1905 and we continue to bring the best of Irish theatre around the world.

Me, Michael explores the magic and the intelligence of an imaginative child growing up without a father. By sharing his family story, Michael finds a new strength in dealing with prejudice.

It’s 1936 in Donegal. Young Michael Evans is friendly and enthusiastic, so it’s hard to understand why the locals say he doesn’t fit in. Until we learn that today is the first time he’s ever met his father. Raised by a passionate mother and several idiosyncratic aunts, Michael’s unconventional living situation gives him a unique curiosity for life.

An energetic and charming monologue full of music and dance, Me, Michael re-frames Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa with all the exuberance and insight of the original.
Part of the Abbey Theatre’s Community and Education programme.
