Clonmel Jobs Announcement A Welcome Reversal Of Trend

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed the provision of up to 200 jobs for Clonmel town over the next six months. Deputy McGrath was speaking ahead of an announcement by the Minister for Enterprise Richard Bruton, which will  confirm the allocation by Eishtec, a customer service solution provider, which has its headquarters in Waterford:

“There is no doubt that today’s announcement will go some way toward reversing a prolonged period of employment instability in the town.

In the context of the regional investment by the IDA, it is also a significant step in the right direction.

That being said, the South East is still feeling the effects of major under investment under the National Strategic Investment fund.

Since the jobs today are coming as part of the Governments Action Plan For Jobs for the South East, that in itself tells us there is at least some recognition of the scale of the challenges facing our towns and region.

When I questioned the Minister about this in February he assured me that The Regional Action Plan for Jobs initiative would  include the roll out of a €150 million property investment programme by the IDA and a further €100 million to be made available to Enterprise Ireland to support enterprises in the regions to start-up, grow and export. 

I will certainly be looking for that kind of detail and how it applies to Tipperary in his speech later today,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
