Cashel Art Festival funding shockingly cut by one third – McGrath
Independent TD Mattie McGrath has expressed his disappointment over a serious funding deficit which has hit the Cashel Art Festival due to take place next month. Deputy McGrath was speaking after he was contacted by the Festivals organisers following news that The Arts Council of Ireland would not be releasing expected funds to support the well established annual event:
“The cut in funding by the Arts Council represents up to a third of the Festivals budget being lost.
This is clearly going to make things extremely difficult for the organisers.
In light of this cut I am calling on Minister Alan Kelly to immediately secure funding from his much hyped €28 million fund to rejuvenate rural towns and villages.
This will in effect be the first real test of a Scheme which Minister Kelly himself has emphasised is specifically in place to help tourism and heritage Festivals like Cashel.
If he wants to put his money where his mouth is, let him begin with the Cashel Arts Festival,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
