Moving Targets (Poise and Pace) Exhibtion opening at The Source Arts Centre Gallery

Moving Targets (Poise and Pace) is the second fixture in a yearlong programme titled ENDURANCE | RESILIENCE, a Curated @ Source project which looks at the links between sport and human effort in contemporary art. Curated by Annette Moloney the exhibition explores the creative connections to the sports of athletics and wrestling.

Moving Targets (Poise and Pace) Exhibtion opening at The Source Arts Centre GalleryRoddy Buchanan’s silent film called ‘Harriers’ captures the moment that a group of runners finish a tough training run, where we get to watch each runner as they manage to catch their breath, all the while looking straight into the camera. Fergus Byrne will present sculpture and drawings that respond to the study of wrestling – both its practice and its representation in art. The artworks map the pathway toward his current work which includes choreosculptures and mobile wooden frameworks.

ENDURANCE | RESILIENCE is a Curated @ Source project which examines how sport and human effort are considered and presented in contemporary art.

During 2015 the Visual Art programme at the The Source Arts Centre is collaborating with artists who explore how and why individuals and communities get involved in regular physical training and endurance sports, where human effort can act as a metaphor for surviving times of economic or personal uncertainty.

During the first fixture from May-June 2015 we were really pleased to welcome over 1,400 people to the Gallery and we’re hoping to encourage visitors back for the second fixture.

ENDURANCE | RESILIENCE is made possible through an Arts Council of Ireland Curator in Residence Award at The Source Arts Centre, and is developed in partnership with Tipperary County Council and Tipperary Sports Partnership.

A number of public events are planned as part of the exhibition which are FREE to attend.

Saturday 5 September 2015 | 12:00-13:30
On the same day as the Exhibition Opening Scottish artist Roddy Buchanan will host an alternative Artists Talk in the form of an Artists Run. Runners and joggers of all abilities are welcome to come along. The run will be short, at a comfortable pace and booking is essential.

Thursday 29 October 2015 | 12:00-13:00 and 14:00-15:00
During the final week of the exhibition over the mid-term break Dublin based artist Fergus Byrne will offer a series of short Movement Workshops aimed at teenagers upwards. The workshops will cater for small numbers of people, so booking is essential through the Source Box Office.

Both events are FREE. Contact Source Box Office by phone: + 353 (0)504 90204 or in person at the The Source Arts Centre.
