Puckane Festival 13th and 14th June 2015

Have you ever wondered how your Grandmother passed her days without the distraction of daytime TV? She spent her hours churning, baking, sewing , knitting, dragging water from a well to wash clothes food etc.. She never heard the word APP. to guide her through her laborious tasks, She was a natural. Well, you can relive  ”A day in the life of My Grandmother ” at Puckane Festival on 13th and 14th June, where Florenece Creighton from Fermanagh and UTV fame will reenact a day in the life of my grandmother where she demonstrates the art of churning, baking, crochet, lace making etc, using all original equipment of the 30;s and 40s. One of the Thatched cottages in Puckane will be used for this purpose. Florence is hugely entertaining, spinning yarns and old sayings as she works away.

puckane festival 13th 14th june 2015Adjoining Florences cottage, Patricia Knight  originally from Puckane, has converted a cottage to an Old Victorian Class room, where some 18 boys and girls, clad in outfits of the day pinnies and mop caps for the girls  and short pants on the lads, will turn back the pages of time in education, under the gimlet eye of school master and well known Nenagh Man Kevin Whelan, who will ”tyranically” introduce children to the use of the Abacus, the inkwell, nibbed pen and indeed the Irish alphapet with the buailte’s and sine fadas.
 .
Meanwhile another cottage is converted to a Victorian Tea Room, relax and unwind  as in days of yore sampling old time treats and good strong TAY presented on the best of China. The gramophone in the corner will be blasting out the latest Count John McCormack hits, Not to be missed.
 .
Next door is a cottage brimming with antiques and collectables including wedding gowns from the past, huge selection of vintage gold and silver jewellery, and some contemporary pieces. Linens lace and something to catch the eye.

Liberty Belle Ireland, fashion designers and make up artists Jessie and Tori are in adjoining cottage where they will work wonders on local ladies aspiring to meet the man of their dreams at the Ballroom of Romance on Sat night in Kennedys Lounge. Pre war hairstyles and make up will be done by the girls who are regularly featured on Irish TV.
Matchmaker extrordinare , Kevin Whelan will change his teachers gown to bow tie as chief Matchmaker at the Ballroom of Romance. Embarrassment guaranteed and loads of laughs to be had. Prizes for most original outfit. Music is by well known Michael Egan and his new band, so dance til you drop with your new found love. Kevin will give tips on how to maintain a good relationshp, how to manage ”doing a line” and willingly give advice about the importance of ”good chaperoning”’ in the early stage of an ”understanging”,…….will be HILARIOUS.
 .
Fell free to swing your partner on Sunday evening as we watch local set dancers ”dancing at the Cross roads” Watch them rise sparks out of the BOARDS as in 1950’s Ireland, come dressed for the occasion, and dance til you drop. Learn the art of giving a good swing and how to get a good ”hoult”.

Musicians of all sorts welcome from Mountain , hill and vale to sing dance and play on the green outside the cottages, and in McGrahts Pub , and Kennedys lounge, where Northern and local musicians put new embroidery on ”The Masons Apron” and ”Turkey in the Straw”.
 .
Tipperary vintage club come on Sunday with Vintage cars and joined by local Borrisokane club with Vintage macahinery, cars  etc. Show your children how you travelled to the marquee dances of the 50’s and 60’s . Get your picture taken, take a spin in the pony and trap and see the smallest pony in Ireland, kiddies just love it.
Local craft and food producers will be showcasing their wares with all kinds of delights as music plays in the background.

Parts of the Festival will be filmed so people attending are asked to wear some type of vintage outfit…….Patricia will have a few ”head squares” for the ladies so call at her cottage and tea room.
