Templemore Commemoration of the 1916 Rising

The Annual Commemoration of the Easter Rising of 1916 will take place on Easter Sunday 5th April at 11am outside the Town Hall, Templemore.

This will be the 10th anniversary of this, the oldest specially dedicated commemoration of the 1916 Rising in Mid Tipperary.  To mark this occasion we have invited Mr John Connors, eminent historian from Borrisoleigh to deliver the oration.  No stranger to speaking on the topic of history, John recently captivated a full to capacity hall in Borrisoleigh on the topic of ‘The Rescue of Seán Hogan at the station of Knocklong’.

For the oration on Easter Sunday John plans to discuss the circumstances leading up to the Rising; the Tipperary connection regarding Michael Callaghan and the circumstances of Robinson coming to Tipperary and the events that followed because of that.  John will also talk about the motivation and ideals, (often diametrically opposite) of the leaders, and how these ideals fit in to today’s Ireland.

Also to mark the tenth anniversary, notable poet Marian Quinlan Curtin of Templetouhy will recite a newly commissioned poem.

Your attendance at this event to honour all who served Ireland, will be greatly appreciated.
